Why Do You Need an Out of Province Inspection?
Alberta Transportation has specific vehicle safety standards that may differ from those in other provinces. To legally register your vehicle in Alberta and obtain license plates, you’ll need to complete the Out of Province Vehicle Inspection Program (VIP) within 90 days of purchase or arrival.
This inspection is required for:

Restored, rebuilt, or modified vehicles
Vehicles with no previous Alberta registration or documentation

What Happens If Your Vehicle Fails the Inspection?
If your vehicle doesn’t pass, don’t worry, you’ll have 10 days to complete repairs. Bruce Stewart Automotive can handle all necessary repairs in-house, saving you time and hassle. Once fixed, we’ll re-inspect your vehicle and verify that it meets Alberta’s safety standards.
After your vehicle passes, you’ll have 14 days to complete the registration. If you miss that window, the inspection will need to be redone.
